The Sustainability Committee is getting ready to have a meeting with Dr. Rogers, the superintendent, and Scott Clemmer, PVSD Buildings and Grounds Manager, in order to talk about our proposal to use an ESCO company (with the proposed company being Ameresco) to reduce power usage and create power with renewable energy sources. We need to come up with the clear benefits of the service, and a rough plan of action in pursuing this. If all goes as planned and we succeed, we will be on our way to the School Board and closer to approval. Also, we want to make contact with Ameresco for additional information to help our case and hopefully to have a representative come (luckily they have a regional office in Philadelphia).
HELP WITH RECYCLING!
Anyone who does not have a specific project at the moment, please come Thursdays after school right away to finish getting recycling bin labeling done. We need to start this work ASAP after school before people start locking doors and leaving, etc. The end is in sight thanks to lots of outstanding work on your parts with only about 35 rooms left! We also need a committee leader for the recycling group. Please let Mr. Craven or Mrs. Brecht know if you are interested!
Maddi Gray started a Facebook page for Take Action at http://www.facebook.com/pages/PV-Take-Action-Club/166059180155530. Start thinking about what info and messages your committees want to put on it. As you know, Facebook is a great way to get others involved and educated on the issues we want to spread, so let's utilize it! Committee members, consider if you want admin access or want to communicate with Maddi about getting messages up there as we go. Once we get it worthy of attention, we can get everyone we know to "Like" it so that we can make our voices heard.
Guest Speaker - Wed. Nov. 2
This Wednesday, Nov 2, at 2:45 in Mrs. Brecht's room 202 we are having an exciting presenter: Mrs. Shannon Spencer who has a unique job at Ursinus College, the Climate Action Manager of the UC Office of Sustainability. She will be coming by to tell us about what it is she does at Ursinus and also to share some ideas for our school and district. If you're available, please come check it out! If you have to be late due to a previous engagement, slip in quietly, but please still come. This is also a great way to get new people interested in joining Take Action, so extend the invitation to those you think can help.
We are REALLY excited for you guys to get your ideas going! Now that we have our groups chosen, we need to decide meeting dates and what we want to focus on. It is important that we all continue our hard work and keep fighing the good fight! If you haven't been to a meeting yet, we are currently meeting on Thursdays. Come by Room 202 and see what we are all about!
